Lived in Manitowoc for a long time. Son of AG Ellis who surveyed US Government lands in Manitowoc County 1835-1836. Came to Green Bay in 1822 as an Episcopal lay reader and missionary. 1st District Attorney county 1849-1850. Democratic stockholder Manitowoc and Rapids Plankroad 1850. Postmaster in the Rapids for a time. County Clerk 1848. One of founders Episcopal church Secym(?) Bible Society 1849. Admitted to bar 1848, by Judge Stowe with Mr Kyle and Colby the other two pioneers attorneys. Born in Green Bay 08/26/1826. Died there 12/09/1906. Postmaster at Rapids after he came there in 1847 having been admitted to the bar that year. Removed to Green Bay early fifties. Was mayor adn circuit judge there. In Green Bay after 1851. Register Deeds Brown County. Circuit Judge 1872-1879. "I never spent any part of my life so happily as at the Rapids down in the hollow among the hills, with a little settlement of whites and Indians camping all around us."
