Description

Born in New Brunswick in 1804.  He was a shipbuilder and ownee a firm known as Bates & Son(William). They built the Challenge in 1852, the Mary Stockton; North Yuba; Colonel Glover 1853, Clipper City 1854, Belle and Vates in 1856, Sea Gem in 1863. Many of these were swift  and highly reputed.
