Born Prussia 1813. Editor first German paper Manitowoc, the Wisconsin Democrat. Had been a printer in Tribune office. Strong Republican partisan. It was a Free Soil then Republican organ started 1854. Preached violation laws in helping slaves escape. Roeser ran for state treasurer on the Republican ticket in 1855 but was defeated by Democratic Charles Kuehn. He Had been delegate to People State Convention in Madison 07/31/1854 founding Republican party. Elected County Clerk 1855-1856. Village Clerk 1855-1858 Moved to Washington to fill federal clerkship and died in Washington 1897. November
