Reached Buffalo and Detroit and there chartered a boat for Green Bay. From there they traveled by Indian trail 3 days camping by night to Rapids. Up river to Murphy's Mill called Thayerville. Built a log house and a mill owned by William Hines in 1892. McAllister &amp; Pierce were given Eberhardt farm for debts by Thayer. Pierce traded his share for interest in hotel at Rapids. Went east in 1838 and brought family here Alonzo 8 Jerome 6. While living at Rapids built Aldrich mill at Cooperstown and Pierce mill on Pierce farm. Arrived in Manitowoc 1838 on steamer James Madison which anchored in harbor and put passengers off in little boats. Was postmaster register of deeds county clerk 1840. Cooperstown mill was sold to W Bruce of Green Bay an Indian agent in 1849. Woolen mill at Rapids established but spring freshets prevented its success. Did some carding however.
